Grandma's advice on how to easily and inexpensively remove very soiled carpet
Real dust (and dust mites!) Nests and carpets require regular maintenance to keep them looking like new...or nearly.
If carpet maintenance for you is more of a chore than anything else, come check out the grandmother's tips we discovered for cleaning your carpets completely, easily and effectively with everyday products.
Use a mixture of sparkling water and baking soda to lighten the colors
With time and folly, your carpet lost its original beautiful color and got some stains covered here and there? To get them back, you don't have to buy expensive products and miracle spot removers from the supermarket: again, you probably have everything you need in your kitchen! Yes: To separate and revive the sheen of the rug, you can use everyday products, like sparkling water and baking soda.
Here's what to do to clean the rug without washing it:
Using a sponge, dampen the rug with sparkling water, then gently scrub it with a brush.
Let it dry for at least 30 minutes, then sprinkle baking soda on your carpet.
Once the baking soda dries, vacuum and admire the result: your carpet will look like new!
Make a mixture of dishwashing liquid and white vinegar
Followers of ecological and economic cleaning know it all too well: white vinegar is the miracle home remedy, and its multiple uses for sanitizing, removing odors or even staining! That's why if your favorite carpet is dirty or stained with grease, don't panic, and take a bottle of alcohol vinegar from your kitchen cabinets:
Start by pouring white vinegar onto a clean cloth and then scrub the stain.
Leave it on for 15 minutes.
Next, pass a mixture of water and dishwashing liquid that you previously collected into a lather with an electric mixer or paddle attachment. Rub this mixture onto the carpet with a brush, then rinse with clean water.
Wipe the rug with a clean cloth and let it dry before admiring the result!
